Eden Lake (2008) –
At the beginning of the trailer, the audience sees a couple in a car leaving a busy city and drive through a quite deserted country road. This shows the audience that this is the point of the period of equilibrium as everything is ok and calm, with smooth music and the couple laughing. Then there is a shot where they drive through the woods, using a satellite navigation system, it says “turn around”, this could be the point that they realise the characters are lost and could be the point of the period of disequilibrium, but a more obvious point is when a dog barks in the women’s face, as this shocks the audience and the audience see trouble with a group of teenagers. The non-diegetic sound changes to diegetic sound of a stereo playing music and a lot of jump cuts edits and fade to blacks edits are used in the montage editing. This makes the audience feel as if from this point something bad is going to happen. the codes and conventions to this horror trailer is that; there is a couple, they are in the middle of nowhere, isolated, alone (so they thought), also a group of teenagers are involved – but in a different way as they may be the killers, and near the end the audience find out that she survives so the last girl theory could be included.
