Horror Film Trailer Review...

Jeepers Creepers (2000) –

At the beginning of the trailer, it shows a couple on a road trip, in a car in a n isolated secluded area. The male character states “I haven’t seen a car in miles”, this re-enforces the isolation to the audience. This is the period of equilibrium as everything is calm and ok. The period of disequilibrium is when the couple see a man in the forest putting something in a van. This lets the audience know that they are not alone and something bad is going to happen. There are a lot of jump cuts after the point if the period of disequilibrium to pull in the audiences and make them feel as if they are part of the action. the codes and conventions of the Jeepers Creepers trailer is that there is a couple, all alone, in a n isolated secluded road/area, and one shot is of a knife therefore conforms to the codes and conventions of the horror genre having a weapon being shown. Furthermore there are a lot of quick shots that show crosses and churches for religion that goes with the codes and conventions. Also as the couple know that there is a creature after them, but they don’t know what it is, it conforms to the fear of the unknown.
